Library Resource Centers for Female Garment Workers

LLC project for Female Garment Workers

The Library Learning Centers Project for Female Garment Workers by CWPD with SIPAR provides organized education and self-driven opportunities to raise awareness about social issues the workers might encounter such as: Nutrition, hygiene, reproductive and sexual health, mother & child health, HIV/AIDS, drugs, family planning, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), domestic violence, financial literacy and road safety. CWPD has trained staff leading sessions and teaches workers to become peer-educators, capable of disseminating the messages. Within these sessions, FGWs are able to ask questions about their daily lives and learn about resources to improve their living conditions. Tools used in this outreach consist of SBC flip charts, life skill manuals and awareness videos.

18 Library Learning Centers have been set up in garment factories across five provinces (Kandal, Kampong Speu, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Kampong Chhnang). 623 sessions have been provided to workers, reaching 11,996 individuals.
